Herbal medicine is the use of whole plant extracts to help treat the symptoms and causes of ill-health, and was the main form of health care until the advent of pharmaceutical drugs. There are written records of plants being used as medicine dating back thousands of years, and in many parts of the world people still largely depend on medicinal plants. Modern herbal medicine, also known as Phytotherapy, combines traditional knowledge and practice with scientific research into the therapeutic effects of plant medicine.

I trained in Western Herbal Medicine for four years, and graduated with a BSc in Herbal Medicine. This training included orthodox medical skills, clinical practice and a detailed knowledge of medicinal plants.

Neal’s Yard in Bath has a wide range of medicinal tinctures and dried herbs which can be dispensed in the shop. If you are looking for help with specific symptoms, you can have a short chat with me in private, and where possible I can write a prescription for you. If your condition is more complex I may advise a consultation. If you are taking prescribed drugs, I can choose herbs which do not interact with your medication.

Sue Davison

After studying acupuncture at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture I began treating clients in 2000 and started work at Neals Yard Bath when it first opened in 2002. In addition I have worked in Hangzhou hospital in China and have built up specialist knowledge with many further trainings on acupuncture and fertility (with Zita West and Jane Lyttleton), pregnancy, all physical and emotional aspects of the menstrual cycle, menopause, and on supporting clients with cancer. I spend a lot of time researching and reflecting on how to reach good health and peace of mind and this strongly informs my clinical practice and treating stress and depression.

Acupuncture is a wonderfully gentle but powerful therapy which regulates  body and mind back into a place of balance and ease of flow from which we can create the life we want.

Specialisation

Working with all aspects of physical and emotional health.

Most of my clients are women and I often work with the physical and emotional aspects of the menstrual cycle as well as the transitions times in a womans life: young women beginning their cycle, preparing for conception, pregnancy and childbirth and the changes that take place in the years of perimenopause. and post menopause.

I also use acupuncture to support clients living through challenging processes such as life threatening illness, chronic pain, traumatic shock, relationship breakdown, mental illness, terminal illness and losing loved ones.

I really enjoy my work and am always happy to talk on the phone or through email to anyone considering treatment, leave a message with  Neal’s Yard and I will contact you.

I am Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist and I have been passionate about the importance of a healthy diet since I was a child. After I had completed my GCSE levels,  I lived in the U.S.A for a year whilst completing my TOEFL qualification and I was very concerned by the growing level of obesity there. At that point I knew I wanted to dedicate myself to helping others take control of their own health and improve their own lives, and this is the goal I have pursued in my career to date.

In the UK, I studied at Bath Spa University and graduated with a 2:1 Honours BSc degree in Diet and Health. I also completed a Masters degree in Dietetics at the Medical University of Silesia in Poland, (certified by the UK NARIC). I have delivered many lectures and nutrition talks, based on my own research and new scientific findings on healthy eating. I have 8 year experience in dietary and nutritional counselling working with disease prevention and health improvement. I work with people to improve their weight management, gut health, metabolic syndrome, food allergies and intolerances, mental wellbeing and sports nutrition. I also work with pregnant and lactating women.

Currently, I work for Sirona Care & Health, Healthy Lifestyle Service. I deliver cookery courses and educate parents and families about healthy diet, cooking for health, labelling and making the right choices. I also work at Demuth’s Cookery School in Bath where I am initiating a program of healthy eating cookery classes, including diets for weight loss, athletes and mental wellbeing. My enthusiasm also lies with my voluntary work at the Off The Record Centre in Bath, which promotes the wellbeing and emotional health of young people in Somerset. This voluntary work is showing me that small, simple changes can make an enormous difference to people if the resources are suitably directed to help them.

I believe that food is a source of energy and nourishment for the body but also joy and pleasure for the mind. When we know which foods and eating habits are going to be beneficial for us, they serve us well and improve our harmony and balance throughout our lives.

I am a fully qualified, experienced kinesiology practitioner, certified by the Association of Systematic Kinesiology.  After kinesiology helped to get to the root of my son’s health issues, I decided to change careers and train as a kinesiologist myself.  I am a firm believer in the power of the body to heal itself when it is rebalanced and given the right tools and help.

My aim is to empower people to regain control of their health and for me to provide the appropriate support to help you do this. My recommendations and guidance may include lifestyle changes, taking nutritional supplements and/or flower remedies, eliminating certain foods from your diet, etc.

I see all clients but particularly enjoy working with children and teenagers and seeing how they and their families benefit from kinesiology. I make sure children’s sessions are informal, relaxed and fun!

Some of the health issues I have helped people with include: stress and anxiety, digestive disorders, back pain, migraines, low energy, low immunity, depression, eczema, asthma, menopausal symptoms, weight loss/gain.

Feel free to contact me before you book an appointment. I am happy to talk either on the phone or face-to-face to see how kinesiology might help you or your child.

Lucy Peel

Lucy Peel

Lucy works with various naturopathic therapies to help get your body back into balance. Naturopathy is a very holistic therapy as all aspects of a person are considered, including the emotional, mental and physical.

Lucy graduated from the University of Westminster with a first-class honours degree in Naturopathy in 2010.  As part of her studies she learnt about naturopathic nutrition, detoxing and cleansing, therapeutic massage, lymphatic cleansing, naturopathic hydrotherapy, BachFlower remedies and other fascinating natural health knowledge that everyone should know about!

Lucy has always been interested in complementary medicine, particularly the effects food can have on mood.  She discovered Naturopathy when living in Australia in her mid-20s and a few years later took the plunge into returning to university and retraining.  She is also a Reiki level 2 practitioner which she incorporates into her naturopathic practice.

Her approach in practice is very holistic, exploring the mental/emotional, physical and biochemical aspects of a person and how this will be affecting their health.  Her treatment plans are based on this holistic approach and she really enjoys working with her patients to encourage them to make the changes that are achievable for them.

Lucy is registered with the General Council and Register of Naturopaths and is fully insured to practice.  She is currently studying for a Masters in Nutritional Therapy and hopes to have her MSc by 2016.

Sebastian PoleI have trained extensively in India and the UK in Ayurveda and Chinese Medicine. I have been in practice since 1998 and work as a general practitioner treating a broad range of conditions. However, I specialise in treating skin problems, women’s health and digestive disorders.

Practising herbal medicine is a great honour for me. To be able to enter into a wholesome healing relationship with my patients and to utilise the powerful effects of natural plant medicines is my life’s work. The depth of wisdom that is contained in the traditional medical systems of Ayurveda, Chinese medicine and our own European herbal practice is a continual inspiration. The ability of many of my patients to address the underlying problems with their health and to flourish into rejuvenated people is a joy to see.
