Workshop 1. Healthy Eating in Pregnancy
Eating well during pregnancy ensures a healthy pregnancy and a reduction in risks and health complications associated with giving birth. It is now well established that a mother’s to be diet during pregnancy can impact on the long term health and well-being of her child and help to reach their full potential. This workshop will cover everything you need to know about what your unborn baby needs nutritionally. We will discuss:
- what good nutrition means for pregnant women
- the Healthy Start scheme
- micronutrients needed and when to supplement
- what foods to avoid or limit during your pregnancy
- how to manage your cravings
- heartburn and morning sickness management – practical tips

Workshop 2. Feeding Infants
The aim of this workshop is to give you all of the information you may need to get your infant feeding off to a good start. We will explain all of the fantastic benefits that breastfeeding offers for both you and your baby. We will also provide you with all the information you may need whether breastfeeding, bottle feeding or both .
The workshop will cover topics including:
- establishing breastfeeding
- the benefits of breastfeeding for both mums and babies
- healthy diet for breastfeeding mums
- baby feeding cues
- expressing and storing breast milk
- mixed feeding – combining breastfeeding and bottle feeding
- infant formulas overview
- feeding difficulties- how to interpret the symptoms and recognise a Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA) or other conditions such as Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and when to seek help from a GP

Workshop 3. Weaning Babies- Introducing Solid Foods
Transition from milk feeds to solid foods is an exciting journey for your baby. Find out how you can guide the way and enjoy this process together.
This workshop is for parents and carers to help them getting off to a good start of their babies’ life-diet and healthy eating habits through the complementary feeding introduction. Suitable for both breastfed and bottle-fed babies.
You will explore:
- how to recognise the signs that tell you when your baby is getting ready for solid food
- baby-led weaning and spoon-feeding. What are the pros and cons
- which foods are best to offer your baby and why, taking into account your family’s diet and cultural influences
- what foods to avoid
- how much to feed and when to reduce milk feeds
- ensuring your baby has a healthy and balanced diet
- feeding difficulties and practical tips for you to overcome these
- how to recognise allergies and how to wean babies with food allergies such as Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA)

Workshop 4. Fussy Eating
Children can often become fussy when it comes to food. Mealtimes can turn into a battle leaving you feeling frustrated and anxious about your child’s diet and health.
This workshop is designed to provide you with tips and strategies to encourage your child to eat well allowing you to enjoy mealtimes together as a family.
You will find out more about hunger and fulness cues, portion sizes, responsive feeding and more to help make mealtime a happier time for everyone.
You will also learn how to monitor your child’s growth and weight, and when to seek help from your GP and/or a Dietian.

Workshop 5. Child Weight Management
Obesity among children is on the increase, triggering a whole range of health problems. We also know what a sensitive subject weight can be.
Young people are increasingly suffering from serious illnesses and conditions related to obesity – including asthma, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver, gallstones and high blood pressure. Being obese can also have a serious impact on children’s self-esteem and cause depression as well as social isolation.
Learning how to eat healthily is a skill and needs teaching. Most overweight children do not lose weight without adult support. The important steps for you to undertake are:
Step 1: Act early- the earlier you can make changes to your child’s diet and lifestyle, the better chance of success you have.
Step 2: Don’t panic, talk about it. The easiest way to make something into a big issue is to have a ‘big talk’ about it. Seek help from a qualified dietitian, explain your concerns and ask for a practical and sensible advise.
From this workshop you will learn what you can do to help your child live a healthier and happier lifestyle.
